For the first time, Channel 4 is to screen the IG London Nocturne, which returns to the City on Saturday June 9th.
The event will again see high speed racing, penny farthings, a longest skid competition and the folding bike race.
In addition to being transmitted by the channel, the Nocturne will also be viewable via 4 On Demand (4OD). The coverage will include one hour of highlights screened on the morning of Sunday June 17th.
“We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Channel 4 who will be official broadcast partner for the event," commented Nocturne founder James Pope. "Channel 4 was the home of cycling with their coverage of the Tour de France so we are delighted the Nocturne will bring back cycling coverage in 2012.”
The Nocturne is free to attend for spectators and features a range of entertainment on the circuit to create a mini cycling festival in the heart of the city. Local bars and restaurants around Smithfield Market become part of the event with food and drinks promotions fuelling the party and spectators can also interact with the displays and trade stands in the expo areas while watching the action on big screens.
Pope added: “This is London’s year of sport and we are extremely excited to be coming back to the City bigger and better than ever before. For those of you that haven’t been lucky enough to secure tickets to the velodrome this summer, the London Nocturne will provide all the thrills and excitement you could ask for of an international cycling event.”
Financial spread betting and CFD trading company IG will sponsor the event again in 2012 as part of an ongoing investment in cycling
