Duncan Sharpe, owner of 34 percent of the UK sports retail chain, was found hanging from a tree on Monday.

CEO of JJB hangs himself

Chairman Dave Whelan, owner of another 34 percent of the chain, and father-in-law to Sharpe, will take over the role of CEO until further notice, reports today’s Financial Timeswill take over as chief executive until further notice.

Sharpe, 43, had been chief executive since February 2001 and was due to present JJB’s interim results on Thursday. The FT reports that the company said it would stick to this timetable and would report pre-tax profits for the six months to July 31 "broadly in line with market expectations."
