Carol Boardman killed while cycling by a motorist

Carol Boardman, the mother of Olympic cyclist Chris Boardman, has been killed while cycling in Wales by a motorist. The incident occurred at Connah’s Quay, near Deeside, on Saturday. Mrs. Boardman died from her injuries on Sunday.

Chris Boardman tweeted the news earlier today. He wrote that his mother was "the most positive, outgoing person you could ever hope to meet."

Mrs Boardman competed in cycling races in her youth, and her Olympian son said she "never lost her love of the bike, or competing."

"We love you Carol, may the wind be ever at your back," he wrote.

The incident occurred at 2pm on Saturday at the roundabout on Mold Road, Connah’s Quay with the Junction of Ffordd Llanarth.

A police statement said any witnesses to the incident could contact them on 101, quoting reference number U104385.

Chris Boardman was presenting the ITV coverage of the Tour de France but upon hearing the news immediately left for the UK. His ITV colleague Ned Boulting tweeted: "I’m so sorry Chris. You and your family are uppermost in our thoughts here in France."
