Limited edition electric cycle – 111 – created for new Astra

Car giant Opel launches e-bike

Opel has partnered with BionX and KTM to create a limited edition e-bike to mark the 111th anniversary launch of its new Astra.

The BionX-equipped ‘111’, or Opel ecoBike Edition, is made by KTM and debuted last month at the launch of the new Astra at the Vienna Auto Show. At the event the 111 was attached to the Astra’s integrated bike carrier, which pulls out from the rear bumper and retracts when not in use.

The 111 will be available through Opel’s European dealer base. BikeBiz is asked the firm if the bike will be sold via UK Vauxhall dealerships.

“We’re proud to have been chosen for this very innovative project,” said Vincent Lamoureux, Director of Global Sales & Marketing for BionX. “OPEL is a legendary brand that is deeply committed to technological progress and development and their partnership is a great affirmation of the efforts that we have made in becoming the technological leader in the e-bike market.”

BionX Intelligent Propulsion Systems produce modular units that can be quickly installed on almost any standard bicycle with two battery options: rear rack or downtube. The systems gives riders a range of power options to add to their own pedal power from 25 to 300 per cent.
