Co-operative business forced out by developers considering long-term leases

Brixton Cycles plans crowdfunder to stay in Brixton

Facing being turfed out of its long-term home in Stockwell, Brixton Cycles is now looking at long term lease options and may turn to crowdfunding to stay alive.

In an email to supporters, the co-operative said: "As you know, we are facing an uncertain future due to our building being developed into luxury flats. We have to move before the end of the year and we’ve been searching high and low for a new home! We haven’t been able to find anywhere to buy, however we are considering a couple of properties on a long lease. They’re completely different spaces to where we are now, offering an exciting future for BC!

"HOWEVER…only if we can afford to fund it! We’re anticipating the cost of moving (& kitting out a new space) to stretch well into six figures, and as a co-op we simply don’t have that kind of cash! Never the kind of folk to admit defeat, we’re planning a crowdfunding campaign, which will launch soon and we’d love your support!"
