British Cycling appoints Paul Barratt as head of performance support

British Cycling has today confirmed the appointment of Paul Barratt to the head of performance support team for the Great Britain Cycling Team.

Barratt, who is currently employed by the English Institute of Sport to work full time for the Great Britain Cycling Team as their senior biomechanist, will take on the responsibility of leading a progressive performance support team across multiple functions.

Performance director Stephen Park said of the new appointment: “I am delighted Paul has accepted the role of head of performance support team. He has been a valued member of the Great Britain Cycling Team for the past nine years and is well respected by staff and riders alike.

“Paul will manage our world-class performance support team to deliver bespoke coach and rider support based on our ‘what it takes to win’ model. Paul’s appointment brings us one step closer to being a full-strength staffing team, allowing our focus to remain firmly on success in Tokyo 2020.”

Barratt added: “I am pleased to accept the role of head of performance support team and to be able to progress my career within the Great Britain Cycling Team. Having been part of the performance support team since the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2008, I fully understand the performance support requirements of the Great Britain Cycling Team and I look forward to managing the alignment of our services to optimise performances in the build up and during Tokyo 2020.”
