Sky-sponsored team will help prepare Wiggo and team for Rio 2016

Bradley Wiggins launches Wiggins team ahead of Rio

Bradley Wiggins is capitalising on his household name with a brand new team – Wiggins.

Sky Sports reports that the new cycling team will target cracking the hour record in London in June and preparing Wiggins and other team members for the team pursuit gold at the forthcoming Rio Olympic Games – the primary reason for setting up the team.

Wiggins recently announced he would leave Team Sky at the end of April. Team Wiggins is sponsored by Sky and endorsed by British Cycling, though is not affiliated to Team Sky and is operating independently of British Cycling.

Wiggins said: “Cycling has given me everything. Now I want to build something to inspire kids and to reach all those people who might be on the fringes of the sport. My message is simple: if I can do it, then so can you.”

Cycling Weekly has an exclusive early look at the Team Wiggins jersey.
