Transport for London (TfL) has announced it will spend £9.2 billion on improving the capital’s transport and facilities, and boasted that it would ‘revolutionise’ cycling.
The budget total, which is up from last year’s £8.1 billion, will be invested in the Tube, Crossrail and other transport initiatives, including major cycling initiatives such as the new Cycle Hire scheme and Cycle Highways.
London Mayor and TfL chairman Boris Johnson confirmed that cycling remained key to the policy: “Smoothing traffic flows will help get the most from our road system and we will revolutionise cycling.
“We will sustain my increased investment in transport policing so that we deliver not only a bigger and better network, but also a safer one – making London an even better place in which to live and work.”
Johnson added: “We are committed to transforming our transport infrastructure, and are investing billions to create a network that Londoners will recognise as vastly improved from the one we have now.”
