BIKE WEEK 2009: Over 10k visit York Cycle Show

York Racecourse saw the 65th York Cycle Show take place over the weekend, with over 10,000 visiting the event.

The show, as reported in local paper The Press, saw plenty of bike action, including displays, exhibitions, rider challenges as bike stunt shows.

The Yorkshire section of the Tour of Britain also officially launched at the show. The finish of the first leg of the show will be in York, with the Tour starting in Scunthorpe on Saturday September 12th and finishing Saturday September 19th.

York Cycle Show chairman Paul Hepworth said: “The weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm on Saturday and it was glorious sunshine on Sunday.

“We enjoyed large crowds – with about 10,000 people passing through in total – including a visit from the civic party.”

Of the Tour of Britain launch, chief exec of Visit York Gillian Cruddas enthused: “This is a fantastic coup for York and Yorkshire providing an opportunity to showcase the region to an international audience – including participants, spectators and those watching the media coverage of the race from across the world.

“Working with our partners in the City of York Council and Yorkshire Forward, we aim to ensure that this event, combined with York’s new cycling city status will help to put York on the cycle map.”
