Funny the difference a day can make. Yesterday, the Alex Moulton bicycle was in joint second last place in the online poll to find the best product design of the past 20 years. The internet and the iPod were way out in the lead.

Bike turns iPod into iPlod

Iconic designers nominated their favourite products from the past twenty years. James Dyson nominated the Moulton bicycle. It’s up against the iPod, the Verdana font, Tate Modern and the world wide web.

Dyson said: "Good design is about how something works, not just how it looks, which is why I like the Moulton bike so much."

Yesterday, the Moulton had two percent of the vote, with the internet and iPod streaking away with 60 percent of the vote between them.

The poll is being conducted by the New Designers exhibition to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The winner of the New Designers poll will be announced at the New Designers event in London on 30th June when the exhibition opens to showcase inspiring work by this year’s crop of graduate designers.

The bicycle is currently in first place with 38 percent of the online votes cast so far. The iPod is in second place with 28 percent and the world wide web in third place with 15 percent.
