12 mechanics, trained to fix bikes at Olympic sites by social enterprise Bikeworks, are seeking work.

Bike shops: can you offer mechanic jobs to these Olympic volunteers?

During the London Olympics, Bikeworks of London trained a number of volunteer bike mechanics to service bicycles left at cycle parking hubs at Olympic venues. These mechanics are now seeking work in the bike trade.

The Olympic Delivery Authority commissioned BikeWorks to set-up repair centres at each of the Olympic Park cycle parking hubs and also at key locations at the open-to-the-public Olympic cycling events. Volunteer bike mechanics offered servicing and repairs to venue users and any passers-by needing help with their bikes.

Twelve trainees worked on the contract supervised by four experienced mechanics. Between them they serviced nearly 3000 bikes.

Bike shops seeking enthusiastic workshop staff should contact Bikework’s Jim Blakemore.
