Transport for London is to fund a series of three one-minute 'infomercials' urging Londoners to get on their bikes. TfL is also launching a community fund to provide support for community groups, schools and businesses to promote bike rides and cycling events in their area.

Bike-mad London gets TV ads

The infomercials will screen on ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, in London only, during the next two weeks. The one minute films focus on families, young people and ‘young professionals’.

The TV campaign will be complemented by non-TV advertising, including posters and print ads, from June onwards.

The three ads can be seen on the TfL website at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/…/18th.shtml

TfL is increasing investment in cycling by 40 percent in 2005/06. 900km of ‘fast, safe, comfortable’ cycle routes – LCN + – will be completed by 2009. 150km of paths in parks and along side the canals will be upgraded to year

round use by 2008. There’s to be more secure cycling parking facilities – 5000 spaces on street, 5000

spaces at schools – by end 2005/6.

Groups and businesses interested in bidding for funds to promote bike rides or events should contact Adrian Bell, adrianbell@tfl.gov.uk
