And manufacturers are struggling to keep up, says The Independent

Bike demand has ‘tripled in the past year’

National newspaper The Independent has drawn attention to bicycle shortages in the face of rising demand – which has, according to the paper, tripled in the past 12 months.

Echoing BikeBiz’s report from the start of last month, the article cites the good weather, and the ongoing success of the Cycle to Work scheme as major drivers behind the boom.

The paper says Giant, Trek and Specialized brands are worst affected by shortages, with some Ridgeback models also seeing demand outstrip supply.

The Independent article quotes industry pundits for their take on the news, including BikeBiz’s own executive editor Carlton Reid. You can read the full report here.
