Manchester business takes on RAW brand

Bamboo bikes come to the UK

Bamboo bike frames are now available to the general public and bike dealers; imported to the UK by Manchester-based RAW.

The bikes – both road and mountain – offer a high performance ride. Due to bamboo’s natural strength and flex more of the vibration is removed from the ride than by comparable materials such as steel, and bamboo is said to be able to withstand impact ‘better than carbon fibre’.

The road bike is available in pro, tri and cross geometries, and the mountain bike frame (hardtail) comes ready for a build up with disc brakes and a standard 80mm travel fork.

The bamboo tubes are joined by hemp fibre and tung oil lugs, and the frame is lacquered for a smooth finish.

RAW Bamboo Bikes – based in Manchester and run by Rachel Hammond – is the sole importer of the road and mountain bikes, designed and built by hand in California, North America.

The frames retail at £2,175 and the full bikes from £3,000. Wholesale accounts offered to bike retailers and ethical outlets. Thse interested should call 07970 780514.
