Like-for-like core sales for cycle retailers increased a huge 27 per cent in November compared with 2008 according to the ACT/ActSmart.
In what was described as the wettest November on record, 57 per cent of retailers saw sales up by more than 20 per cent compared with November 2008.
11 per cent of bicycle retailers reported a sales rise of between 10 and 20 per cent in the same period, while another 11 per cent revealed sales were up between one and 10 per cent in November 2009, compared with the same month in 2008.
While the results are encouraging, the trade body cautioned over December’s results – due to arrive next week:
“With mixed reports already circulating about December’s performance and particularly the impact of the wintry weather, it will be very interesting to see how the cycle sector fared. The next 10 days will be filled with retail results and speculation. ActSmart’s analysis of December business will be available here w/c 11th January, with a full annual review of 2009 to follow.”
