GT executives Mark Peterman, director of product development, and Robert Kahler, senior product manager, have just returned to California after a whistlestop tour of the UK. They met mag editors and chilled out at the latest Backyard Jam.

The main purpose of the visit was to help Hot Wheels, GT’s UK distributor, communicate the technology behind the new I-Drive series of bikes.

Neil Merry from Hot Wheels said: "GT, now under Pacific Cycles ownership, continue to recognise the importance of the UK market and Mark and Robert wanted to be sure that they were fully aware of UK riding conditions and niche market opportunities to be found here. The UK has a vibrant trials scene and GT have probably the world’s most famous trials rider in Hans Rey. It makes sense for us to explore this market and a product launch is now likely for late 2003 model year or early 2004."

There’s already a BSX/Dual bike, the Moto. This was co-designed by Hot Wheels product manager David Jones and GT’s Robert Kahler. The Moto was originally intended to be UK only but it has scored ordering success in Japan, Australia and the US, said Merry.

Hot Wheels is the UK distributor for IBD sales of GT bikes and has 200 accounts.
