There’s to be a service at 11am on 28th December with members of the bicycle trade warmly invited, said Ron Kitching’s close friend, Mike Breckon.

Christ Church is situated on the Stray, Harrogate’s common, and there will be a reception held at the Cedar Court hotel, opposite the church.

The Executors of Ron Kitching’s will – Barber Titleys of Harrogate – have requested no flowers, donations to the CTC Cyclists Defence Fund can be sent instead. Donations can be sent directly to CTC or via the solicitors at Barber Titleys, 6 North Park Road, Harrogate HG1 5PA.

CTC and Audax UK are to go ahead with their Ron Kitching Challenge ride on June 22nd 2002 at the CTC York Rally.

CTC President Phil Liggett said: "Ron Kitching gave his life to our sport and pastime in every way possible – as a rider, tourist and with the industry. He was, to quote his former company, "Everything Cycling" and was an outstanding benefactor to the CTC. His death saddens us all. Ron represented cycling, and its progress in Britain throughout the 20th century and he will be missed greatly as a friend and passionate supporter of life on the open road."

The CTC Challenge rides in 2002 are a co-operation between CTC and Audax UK to raise funds for safer cycling. Ron Kitching was made Patron of Audax UK at their recent AGM.

Bill Priestley, Chair of the York Rally Committee paid tribute to Ron Kitching: "He was one of the leading lights from the beginning and the Rally always enjoyed his company."

Two years ago the Ron Kitching Museum and Library was established at the clubrooms of

the Otley Cycling Club where a lifetime of Ron Kitching’s memorabilia is on display.
