Interviews will be held remotely via Teams Job Description: Our mission is simple, to get refugees cycling! We are a community of refugees, mechanics, staff and volunteers. We collect donations of second-hand bikes, fix them together at our workshop, and then donate them to asylum seeking refugees. A proportion of the bikes that we receive are sold through our online shop to generate funds, the proceeds of which support The Bike Project, and ensure our long-term sustainability. There are approximately 13,500 asylum seekers that flee to London each year and almost 27,500 bikes are abandoned in the same period. Our mission is to match the two. The Bike Project is going through a significant period of growth, turning over £1.5 million in 2020. We are expanding the delivery of bike donations, Pedal Power and Bike Buddies whilst developing our retail arm, The Bike Shop. We are looking for a Senior Technician (Bike Servicing Lead) to work closely with the Retail Manager and Project Technical Lead to establish and grow bike repairs and servicing in our West Midlands workshop. This role will also support the workshop with the refurbishment of sales bikes. JOB DESCRIPTION: PURPOSE OF ROLE: The primary purpose of this role is to service and repair cycles. They will work closely with the Retail Manager and Project Technical Lead to establish and grow bike repairs and servicing in their region. At times they will also support the workshop with the refurbishment of sales bikes. There is a higher expectation on output in this role, than in the more junior roles in the organisation, to reflect experience. Key Responsibilities: To fully service/ repair on average a minimum 10 cycles per working week (avg. 3hr working time per bike). To lead on a bike repairs and servicing from the West Midlands Workshop. To carry out all repairs to standards outlined and at an acceptable pass rate agreed with the site manager. Key Activities: Depending on location, the role holder will carry out key activities to contribute to the charitable and commercial aims of the project. These activities can include; ensuring a healthy ongoing stock of good quality use bikes for sale, providing bike servicing and repairs to the public. Use Salesforce to accurately add all parts and stock used on bikes. At times to assist the Stock Coordinator with stock takes or daily line counts. When necessary assist with front of house activities e.g. allocating and sizing bikes and safety accessories to beneficiaries, responding to general project enquiries. At times to support the Technical Assistants/Bike Processor with processing and registering new bike stock, walk-in donations and scrap management across the site. Encourage each other to work tidy and efficiently, keep all tool and spares in use in their appropriate place. Help maintain a safe working to environment and raise awareness of potential risks straight away. When necessary assist with front of house activities e.g. allocating and sizing bikes and safety accessories to beneficiaries, responding to general project enquiries. Person Specification Requirement Essential/Desirable Can demonstrate a minimum of 3 yrs experience repairing and maintaining cycles in a busy bike shop/workshop or freelancing for such organizations. Essential Expected to hold a current cycle maintenance and repair Level 2 Qualification such as City and Guilds or Cytech or equivalent. Mature technicians with a proven track record of industry wide technical experience may also be considered. Essential Some knowledge of Microsoft Office beneficial. Experience with CRM systems such is highly desirable, in addition to web or cloud based platforms useful. Desirable Evidence of ability to problem solve with minimal supervision. The role includes weekend work and occasional evening work, and may also require working outside. The role requires individual to work on their feet for long periods of time, as well as lift and move heavy objects e.g. bikes. An openness and sensitivity to religious and cultural differences is essential when interaction with beneficiaries.
