EUROBIKE 2011: 20th edition of supershow draws 1,180 exhibitors from 45 countries; Smart launches e-bike

‘350-plus product world premieres’ at Eurobike

Eurobike will see the debut of over 350 ‘world premiere product launches’, according to show organisers.

"Over 1,000,000 square feet of exhibition space is filled," says Eurobike project leader Stefan Reisinger. "In 1991 286 exhibitors participate, this year 14 halls are filled to the brim with 1,180 firms from around the globe."

Ever popular with manufacturers of electric bikes, the show has a dedicated test track, exhibition hall and the support of international exhibitors, both established and new. The show has even drawn the likes of car manufacturer Smart, which has used Eurobike as a platform to announce its presence in the bicycle market with an electric build.

"The Smart e-bike is a genuine Smart – just a two wheeler," commented Dr. Annette Winkler, head of Smart. The firm is said to have worked with engineers from Daimler and from Grace, as well as having surveyed the mobility needs of thousands of residents from major cities around the world.

However, the Smart e-bike will only be available to car dealers: there are no plans to offer it to bicycle dealers. So why exhibit at Eurobike? To "see the industry reaction", said a Smart official.
