Formula One champ to receive one of the first Factor 001 models

£20k bike heading to Lewis Hamilton

Motor racing star Lewis Hamilton is set to receive one of the first Factor 001 bikes off the production line. The Norfolk-built bike is set to cost £20,000, as reported by the Norwich Evening News.

The Factor 001, reported on by BikeBiz as far back as 2007, is finally set to be available to the public from November, but not before Hamilton receives his model.

BERU F1 are behind the custom-made bikes. MD John Bailey said: “We gave him a prototype and one of the first production bikes will be his.”

Appropriately enough, the Factor 001 borrows technology from Formula One. The frame is made from super-fine layers of carbon fibre and 40 electronic sensors will provide riders with detailed information through a built-in computer – providing essential training data. The gears also benefit from F1 technology, with the chain moved by switch-operated motors.

Bailey added: “It’s quite a complex process. It’s totally made to order. You won’t be able to go to a bike shop to get measured. Each frame is individually made.”
