Grand opening sees flocks take advantage of drier weather and newly opened route

1,600 cyclists enter UK’s longest ‘cycle tunnel’ in first hour

Sustrans revealed yesterday that 1,600 cyclists were counted using the new Bath to Midford ‘Cycle Tunnel’ in the opening hour.

Opening on Saturday 6th, the new route is a four-mile stretch of disused railway line which has been transformed by Sustrans into a groundbreaking new walking and cycling route linking Bath and Midford. The line had been unused since the Beeching Report, published 50 years ago, forced it to close in 1966.
